Smart Storage Tips to Make the Most of Your Unit
Whether you’re storing your belongings short-term or settling in for the long haul, a little planning can go a long way. At our facility, we want your storage experience to be as smooth and stress-free as possible. That’s why we’ve put together some helpful tips to help you get organized, protect your items, and make the most of every square foot.
Pack with Purpose
Use sturdy, same-sized boxes when possible—they stack better and make for a safer, more efficient layout. Label each box clearly on multiple sides, and keep a simple inventory list of what’s inside. For fragile items, don’t forget to wrap with bubble wrap or packing paper, and avoid overloading boxes to prevent damage during handling.
Think Vertical
One of the most common mistakes is underutilizing the height of your storage unit. Use shelving units or stack boxes from heaviest on the bottom to lightest on top. Leave a walkway through the middle so you can easily access items in the back. And always place items you may need more often—like seasonal clothes or important documents—near the front for convenience.
Protect What Matters
Climate-controlled units are ideal for sensitive items like electronics, wooden furniture, photographs, and collectibles. Use mattress covers, furniture blankets, and plastic bins to protect against dust and moisture. And remember: never store food, flammable items, or anything that could attract pests. A clean unit is a safe unit!
